Blake Turnbull Heritage Consultancy is headed up by Jonathan Smith BA (Hons) MA PGCE PGDip MCIfA IHBC. Jonathan is a widely experienced and fully qualified heritage professional (both in archaeology and built heritage) with practical expertise and an extensive track record in heritage management and planning. This includes experience, gained over thirty years, as a fieldwork contractor, lecturer, local government planning regulator and as a private sector planning consultant.
Jonathan has a thorough understanding of the UK planning process in relation to heritage. He is well practised in negotiating, delivering and managing the provisions of specialist advice and information to council officers and members, the public, statutory consultees, architects, engineers, developers, agents, other environmental professionals and heritage asset owners on all matters relating to the management of designated and non-designated heritage assets. He is experienced in all aspects of the UK’s historic environment (excepting marine): its investigation, understanding and the appropriate management of change.
Jonathan has an extensive and successful track record over twenty years as an expert heritage witness at EiPs, hearings and planning inquiries.
Jonathan is a visiting lecturer at Oxford Brookes University for their Historic Conservation post-graduate degree course.
